Tulips Season in Seattle

Skagit valley tulip festival

Skagit Valley in Washington State hosts a tulip festival every year to celebrate the start of spring. The festival is between April 1st- April 30th. The fields are located between towns of La conner and Mt vernon and we highly recommend driving around the area to soak in the beautiful views and enjoy the onset of spring. Right before the tulip festival sometime in March you can also find daffodils in this area and its very pretty. Be sure to check out Skagit valley if you are visiting seattle in March and are not going to be able to attend the tulip festival. We were recently there and were able to find some pretty daffodils. We would recommend visiting Skagit valley between mid-end April as that is the best time for the blossoms.

How far is Skagit Valley from Seattle?

Skagit Valley and Mt Vernon is located about an hour North of Seattle. Best way to get here is to via I5. Visiting the Skagit Valley is a perfect day trip from seattle. We can recommend starting earlier in the day picking up your cuppa joe at Mt Vernon, visiting the tulip fields at 8am/9am when they open up(which is also great lighting for pictures i.e, after sunrise and during golden hour) and spending the day in the valley.

What Tulip Fields can you absolutely not miss?

There are two major tulip fields we recommend visiting when you are in Skagit : Roozengarde and Tuliptown. You can choose to visit either one of these or both if you have the time. This year, these fields will be following COVID 19 restrictions. You can book your tickets from their respective websites. While Roozengarde doesn’t have a dedicated photography pass, Tuliptown does, so keep that in mind while you make your bookings.

What else should one do around Skagit/Mt Vernon/La Conner?

Glad you asked. There is plenty of stuff to do around here to fill an entire day’s worth of time. We personally visit Christianson’s nursery to just spend some time admiring plants and flowers. We have recently grown fond of indoor plants and are always interested in knowing more about treating our plants well and adding more to our home. If you are into this, you will not in the slightest regret going here and spending time.

For Caffeine, we suggest visiting Ristretto Cafe in downtown Mt Vernon. They have the usual fare and interesting decor. Food wise we always head to the Skagit Valley Food Co-op to pick some prepared hot/cold foods from their food section, but Mt Vernon Downtown has plenty of food options/Cafès. Check out Mr T’s Family Cafe for truly amazing brunch/breakfast fare.

La Conner/Mt Vernon has one of PNW’s highly admired Cinnamon rolls at Calico Cupboard Old Town Cafe, truly delicious. If you have some time to spare, sip some wine and enjoy the spring sunset at a vineyard in this area.

I still find that I have a couple of hours to spare after all this, what else can I do?

If are into shopping, on your way back to Seattle, you can’t miss the signs to Seattle Premium Outlets. We love going here, almost too many times to our own detriment, and almost always are satisfied with our shopping trips here!
